From Poland To The Poconos

When tasked with finding someone to write about that had an interesting story one person popped into my head, Bianca Baran.

Biancas mother and father went to high school and college in Poland.

"You either went to a five year high school with sports, like you would play sports for like three hours a day, or you would go to an arts high school which is four years. My mom went to the arts high school and my dad went to the sports high school." Baran said.

Bianca’s parents were born and raised in Poland and came to America after getting married. Bianca and her family live in the Pocono Mountains which is over four hours away from Slippery Rock University.

After my parents got married, they were supposed to come here on their honeymoon… which they did but they just never went back” Baran said.

Growing up, Polish was Bianca’s first language.

Most of Biancas relatives are still in Poland and she will be going to visit them for a few weeks this summer.

Exercise science was always interesting to Bianca and aside from thinking about being a teacher, she knew it was the path she was going to take. Slippery Rock University is known for their exercise science program, so it was a perfect fit when Bianca decided to study at SRU. After graduation, Bianca wants to apply to get her master’s in occupational therapy somewhere warm.

Outside of her studies as a student, Bianca is a member of the Slippery Rock University cheerleading program. She is a natural leader on the team and is advanced in her skills. Many girls look up to her as a mentor and role model and she does a great job of setting the bar high for the future of the program.
